Civil war
The security situation in Côte d'Ivoire is tense and unstable following several years of civil war. UN forces and recent political agrrements succeded though to improve the situation lately.
Dix-Huit Montagnes and Moyen-Cavally regions of western Côte d'Ivoire are partucularly dangerous.
Don't
Use only professional guides or tour operators and do not take photographs near sensitive installations (military sites, government buildings, the airport and the DeGaulle and Houphouet-Boigny bridges in Abidjan).
Health
A valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required for entry into Côte d'Ivoire.
Côte d'Ivoire is listed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as endemic for yellow fever.
It is strongly recommended that you take out comprehensive travel insurance that will cover any overseas medical costs, before you depart.
It is indicated to drink only boiled water and seek medical advice if you have a fever or are suffering from diarrhoea or if you encounter any respiratory difficulties (the toxic waste is a major problem in Abidjan and neighbourhoods). |
