Many of western Europe citizens, South America, US, Australia and many other nationals do not require visa to entry Israel. They still require a valid passport for at least 6 months and a return ticket.
The main hassle with visiting Israel is avoiding having your passport stamped - most Arab countries will not allow you to enter if you have visited Israel. So it is a good idea to ask the authorities to stamp your entry permit, not your passport.
