Seated on the ruins of the ancient kingdom of Persia, the Islamic Republic of Iran has a great cultural offer for the history passionate travelers, and more.
There are plenty of mosques, shrines and mausoleums to explore down the old Silk Route that transited all Asia, but keep in mind that Omar Khayyam odes to wine, women and song do not apply any longer to the contemporary Persian society, and black tea is the only legal drug that you can indulge in nowadays.
Although not a recommended destination for drinking parties and silly behavior, Iran has rugged mountain rims and deserts that offer a perfect set for rock climbing, skiing or trekking. |
