The largest Caribbean island, Cuba has managed to keep its tropical paradise flavor through the Castro socialist era and is still one of the best tourist destinations – somehow the 40 years of US blockade helped maintaining the unaltered beauty of the white sandy beaches that stretch all over the coastline.

But ecotourism is not the only attraction here, since you can enjoy all sort of entertainment, from the live music and dancing in the carnivals of Santiago to the cabarets, night clubs and skydiving centers in the fancy resorts of Varadero.

You can still feel the taste of the Spanish colonization in the small, colorful streets of Trinidad protected by UNESCO heritage. The Old Havana preserves also most of the architecture and sights that made it a hot-spot in the 1950’s, although it was re-opened to tourism only in the late 1990’s and nowadays you may have trouble finding English speakers amongst hotel staff or airport personnel.

Nevertheless, a visit to a cigar factory and a night out in town sipping “Hemingway special” rum cocktails while listening to salsa pulsating yet lascivious rhythms will definitely make you want to stay.
