Costa Rica's climate is tropical with two sesons: dry (December to April) and wet.
Mountain regions are colder but pleasant (min. 15°C, max. 25°C). Pacific and Caribben coasts are hot and very humid.
The mountains can be quite cool at night, so take a sweater. An umbrella and other rain gear are necessities no matter when you visit.
When to go
The best time to visit is December-May, but try to avoid Christmas and Easter holidays because everyone seems to go to the beach. (Businesses are shut down and all the hotels are full).
Costa Rica is really a year-round destination.
June to October is called green season - the vegetation looks nicer then and prices are lower, but you can almost be guaranteed at least a brief thunderstorm every day in late afternoon or early evening. It is a good period for sufers, the waves are bigger and faster this time.
November to April is the best period for wildlife passionates. August and September is peak season for green turtles.
