Much of the country has a mountain climate with snow in the highlands.
The north is desert, warm during the day but very cool at night.
The central part has a Mediterranean climate with a rainy season between May and August.
The south is cold, and often wet.
When to go
Santiago and Middle Chile are best in spring (September and November) and autumn (February and April). February is also best for Chilean festivals and carnivals, but you have to book in advance.
The south is best in summer months (December-March).
Atacama Desert is an year round destination.
Ski season begins in July and ends in September.
Easter Island is best in March. Summer (December to March) is high season.
